The Niagara Falls Adventure

Day One (August 28): Travel to Binghamton NY

The first day was spent in a leisurely drive from Milford to Binghamton, NY to visit some friends, John and Linda Nolan, for the night.  On the way, we stopped at The Secret Caverns in Cobleskill, NY (this is very near Howe Caverns).  We arrived at the Nolan's about 6PM and had a fantastic dinner of "speedies" (kabobs of chicken served with bread) and a huge array of other foods (including some very fresh corn).   It was a wonderful visit and a good day.

Day Two (August 29): Corning Glass Works and the first night at the Falls

After breakfast at the Cracker Barrell in Binghamton, we started out for the Falls.   On the way, we stopped in Corning, NY at the Corning Museum (formerly known as the Corning Glass Works).  This is a fairly extensive museum on glassmaking, and we spent some time going through it.  We arrived at the Falls about 6PM and checked in to the Fairbanks House Bed and Breakfast, then walked down to the Falls for our first look (and a look behind the falls as well).

Day Three (August 30): Gondola Ride, Maid of the Mist, and Night Photos of the Falls

A busy day!  We started by walking up to the Spanish Aerocar and taking a ride on that, then walking back to the Falls for a ride on the Maid of the Mist.  We then proceeded to the local IMAX theater for a movie on the history of the falls.  On the way back to the Falls, we got a good look at the Skylon Tower.  Then it was time for supper at the Table Rock restaurant and a look at the falls at night.

Day Five (September 1): The Drive to Montreal

Day Six (September 2): Montreal - the Biodome, Botannical Gardens, and the Olympic Tower

In the morning, we got on the Metro and headed out to the Olympic Park, and spent a good portion of the day going through the Biodome, riding up to the top of the Olympic Tower, and exploring the Botannical Gardens.  Afterwards, we visited the Notre Dame Basilica and took the Metro out to St. Helene Island to do a little exploring.

Day Seven (September 3): The Drive to Vermont

We started out fairly early to beat the rush.  Our course took us through the Thousand Islands area, and we wanted to take our time exploring.  We arrived in Vermont a little early and did some driving around before we met up with Melissa's parents at the Shelburne Campground.

Day Eight (September 4): Ben and Jerry's and the Teddy Bear Factory

The four of us decided to take a tour of the Ben and Jerry's factory.  It took a while to find, but was worth the journey.  Afterward, we toured the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, which was a lot of fun.  We also made a quick stop by the Mad Hat Brewery (no tours available at that point, but we did get to try free samples).

Day Nine (September 5): The Drive Home

Then it was time to get home.  Our only stop on this drive was Quechee Gorge in Vermont, where we had lunch.
