July 3:  Hoover Dam

After waking up and having a simple breakfast, Darlene and Melissa headed up to the laundry, and Nate and Mathea headed to the pool. Ray worked on some miscellaneous repairs. The Hitchin' Post has a really nice olympic-sized saltwater pool. After several hours of fun swimming, we all took showers and headed back to the motor home.

After lunch, we drove out to the Hoover Dam. It was very crowded and very hot (well over 100 degrees, no breeze, and little shade was available). We didn't stay terribly long but got some nice views and pictures.

On the way back, we stopped by the Boulder Dam Brewing Company in Boulder City, Nevada, where we had an early supper and some beer to soothe our parched throats (Mathea had water). Both the food and beer were quite good, and the prices were fairly reasonable. Nate had a mix of Stout and Hard Cider called an "Arizona Snakebite" which was quite tasty. There was a fairly easy geocache near the restaurant, so we found that (actually, Melissa found it).

Mathea went for another swim around 5:45PM, but Melissa didn't want her suit to get wet (packing wet gear for long flights is no fun). So Melissa cut an old suit in half to make a 2-piece suit that was perfect for one-time use. The final swim ended at 6:30PM when we heard thunder.

A little later, a really windy thunderstorm came in, with lots of lightning and a decent amount of rain. Though it won't make much difference to the water levels, hopefully it will raise the water tables a bit here and there.

Early bedtime tonight. We have to be at the airport at 4:30AM for a 6:00AM flight and it takes 1/2 hour to get there. So wakey-wakey is around 3:30AM. Which is only 6:30AM east coast time, but still...

All things must end, but I really wish this vacation wouldn't. I'm not ready to go back to work.

The End
